Avocado Bed 27th July 2010

We decided to have another try at establishing some avocado trees. We first tried this 18 years ago when the property was undeveloped and the plants were fully exposed to all the elements. Many trees have now grown well and some sheds have been built and we feel that there is a likelihood that we can now offer better protection for young trees.

It is proposed to take an area in front of the climbing roses currently planted with kikuyu lawn and plant 3 avocadoes here. The grass has been killed off, the thatch removed and a strip 1m wide rotary hoed in preparation. It is further planned to add a good amount of cow manure and mix this in then to later mulch with deep litter poultry manure.
