Carrot

  1. Seeds can be sown from September to April. Seeds sown other times do not germinate well.
  2. Carrots from seeds sown in March produce throughout winter and spring.
  3. Out of date carrot seeds still seem to germinate well in these months.
  4. Saved seeds rarely do well and hybrids never.
  5. Keep seeds weed free early for best results.
  6. Thin seedlings to 50-80mm apart.
  7. Do not transplant seedlings as they only produce forked and mangled carrots.
  8. Seeds must be sown direct for nice carrots.
  9. Good varieties: Manchester Table, Majestic Red, Western Red, Yates All Seasons,
  10. Poor Varieties: Nantes, St Valery, Tip Top

Nantes

  1. Very thin carrots and slow to get that far.
  2. Uniform shape and length but not sure if they have any place in my garden.
  3. They do not compare with the good varieties listed above.
